Description
AI data centers are creating a massive new wave of electricity demand, and the grid is already stretched. Strobe is building an autonomous power company to help meet that demand: software that turns buildings, batteries, EVs, and generators into a distributed power plant that can buy, sell, and dispatch electricity in real time. The team is a 6-person, well-funded, early, high-ownership team. The role is onsite (Brooklyn or SF). The staff/founding engineer will own data integrations and cloud infrastructure that make the system work, including connecting to utilities, grid operators, OEM hardware, weather providers, and the optimization engine, and ensuring reliability when market events are happening and dollars are on the line. Work includes wholesale market integrations with NYISO, CAISO, ERCOT; OEM hardware integrations for monitoring/control/telemetry; utility data pipelines (including Green Button Connect/ESPI, interval usage, billing, and meter data); weather forecast pipelines feeding the scheduling engine; event-driven AWS infrastructure using Lambda, API Gateway, AppSync/GraphQL, EventBridge, IoT Core, Timestream, Amplify, and CloudWatch; Terraform IaC plus observability, alerting, and reliability work. Good fit if you have deep AWS experience, used Terraform seriously in production, and write a lot of Python. Energy experience is a plus but not required. Experience with utilities, government APIs, OEMs, hardware, telemetry, or other real-world messy systems is relevant. Tech stack mentioned: Python, TypeScript, Rust, Terraform, AWS, GraphQL/AppSync, MQTT, Grafana. They use an AI-agent-optimized monorepo and invest in agent-enabled engineering efficiency.
