Description

Nabu Casa, the organization behind Home Assistant, is seeking a Technical Writer to own the documentation experience for Nabu Casa Hardware and Cloud. The role is high-ownership and high-impact: you will be the primary person responsible for making products accessible to a global community of users and developers—from first-time setup guides to deep API and integration documentation. You will work directly with engineers to translate technical complexity into clear, accurate content that enables users to succeed without needing support tickets. Responsibilities include end-to-end documentation ownership for Hardware and Cloud, planning and delivering documentation in sync with product releases, researching/verifying technical content with engineers, auditing and improving existing documentation, defining documentation standards/style guides/templates, triaging and acting on documentation feedback, improving developer experience via API/integration/contributor docs, and tracking documentation quality signals. Requirements include strong technical writing skills with a portfolio of developer/product documentation, the ability to read and understand code (Python, YAML, REST APIs), understanding of smart home hardware/electronics for basic troubleshooting, experience with docs-as-code (Git, Markdown, MkDocs/Docusaurus), high autonomy, and strong stakeholder management to extract technical information efficiently. Bonus: familiarity with Home Assistant or similar OSS/self-hosted software, maintaining docs with external contributors, systematic auditing of large documentation sets, and experience working async in remote-first teams.
