The role focuses on scaling the platform, improving performance, reliability, and resiliency as Shopify grows its microservices. Work involves Kubernetes on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), evaluating Istio as a service mesh with Envoy Proxy sidecars, and building client libraries in Ruby, Go and Python.
