Up to $76,745–$142,199 per year based on qualifications for GS-11 grade level; career ladder GS-11 to GS-13. Possible extra compensation based on duty location. Recruitment Incentive: one-time $10,000 after completing Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC) with a 1-year service agreement (eligible new hires only). LEAP: Law Enforcement Availability Pay (25% Everyone). Retention Incentive: 25% for Caribbean Air and Marine Branch (CAMB) locations and Key Largo, Key West, Marathon (FL) and Long Beach (CA) locations (eligibility contingent). Responsibilities
- Perform marine-based law enforcement operations for detection, prevention, interdiction, and apprehension of terrorists, terrorist weapons, and other contraband and persons from illegally entering or attacking the United States.
- Monitor behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities.
- Interpret radar data to calculate appropriate intercept while tracking vessels and people to a successful interdiction.
- Search persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons incidental to detention or arrest.
- Collect, refine, and analyze strategic and tactical intelligence.
Requirements
- Qualifying Merchant Mariner Credential issued by the U.S. Coast Guard; submit valid, legible copy including expiration and capacity pages at time of application.
- Citizenship: must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
- Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
- Meet GS-11 specialized experience requirement: one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (or education substitution options).
- Provide resume explicitly indicating how qualification requirement is met; meet required documents (per post).
- Submit proof of Veteran's Preference (DD-214 Member 4 Copy) if applicable.
- Training requirement: may be required to successfully complete training as a condition of employment.

Salary and Benefits Begin your career as a Marine Interdiction Agent (MIA) and make up to $76,745–$142,199 per year based on your qualifications for the GS-11 grade level and possible extra compensation based on your duty location. Typical duties may include monitoring suspect behavior patterns/activities of persons, vehicles, or vessels; interpreting radar data to calculate intercept while tracking vessels and people; searching persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons; collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence. Qualifications GS-11 selective factor: must have a qualifying Merchant Mariner Credential. Qualifying capacities include Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV); Mate of 200 gross tons or greater; Chief Mate; Second Mate; Third Mate Unlimited Oceans; or Master of 25 GRT or greater (or an accepted MMLD application with qualifying capacity and positive standing). Minimum qualifications for GS-11 include one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, including controlling/commanding law enforcement scenes, conducting searches, making arrests, processing arrests and seizure of evidence/property, conducting investigative inquiries, examining files/records and physical/documentary evidence, using cameras and other electronic high-tech surveillance equipment, writing comprehensive arrest/criminal/incident reports, assisting attorneys and testifying, applying arrest authorities and constitutional law, or knowledge/experience of CBP laws/regulations/policies/legal precedent. Education substitution options are provided.
