Roles

Senior Software Engineer

Locations

Remote, San Francisco

Description

The Data Science CoLab is seeking front-end, back-end, and full-stack software engineers to help build UCSF's Data Library. You’ll work as part of a small, cross-functional team of engineers, data scientists, and biologists to develop a platform that stores and analyzes cutting-edge biological data from UCSF researchers. In this position, you will architect, build, and deploy an open-source database system designed to accommodate large, diverse biological data types from a wide variety of technologies. The team also focuses on challenges in visualization and analysis of this complex data, the integration of multi-modal data, and building an interface that is accessible for biologists. You will be working with top UCSF researchers, learning novel biology as it’s discovered, and making an impact on the direction and discovery in the immunology and cancer fields. You will have freedom to innovate in this space with the tools and infrastructure you will build that can change the way we do systems biology. This is a US remote-friendly position (all of the current software engineers are remote), but you could also work out of the UCSF Parnassus Campus if you are in San Francisco and prefer that. We meet up several times a year in SF to plan work, interact with our users, and get to know each other. Our stack is Ruby (main services), Python (Airflow), and TypeScript / JavaScript / React on the front-end. We run Docker + Docker Swarm on our own VMs. Process-wise, no leetcode or take-home projects. Instead, plan on two rounds of interviews to determine fit and coding ability.
