Description
The Simons Collaboration on the Nonperturbative Bootstrap seeks applicants for the position of Research Software Engineer. Our Collaboration of theoretical physicists focuses on developing new computational techniques for studying and solving nonperturbative quantum field theories. Our methods are used to better understand phenomena ranging from demagnetization and superfluid helium, to quantum theories of gravity. Our techniques draw on symbolic algebra, numerical optimization, distributed computing, and many other areas of computer science. This is a 2 year term position. The position will be based at Caltech in Pasadena, CA. Working remotely is possible. You will: Collaborate with faculty and researchers to develop open-source solutions for nonperturbative computations in quantum field theory; Explore applications of high-performance computing to improve and scale our current tools; Assist researchers with optimizing, parallelizing, distributing, and using shared software tools. We are looking for a candidate with experience in (high-performance, open source) numerical programming in C/C++. Additional experience with functional languages (e.g. Haskell or Mathematica) would be appreciated.
