At Numida we provide meaningful, unsecured working capital loans to small and micro-enterprises in sub-Saharan Africa, currently focused in Uganda. These businesses drive the majority of job creation on the Continent and yet are underserved to the tune of $167B a year. We started Numdia thinking we'd make a dent in this gap by building better data collection systems for existing microfinance institutions but quickly realized that none of our early partners were willing to remove their reliance on steep collateral requirements as security for their loans. We needed to build something entirely new to successfully finance hard-working entrepreneurs without existing wealth to stake as collateral. We've found a scalable model that combines automation with human review when necessary to drastically reduce costs while maintaining high quality underwriting. We have best-in-class recovery rates above 93% and retention rates in the mid-nineties. We've disbursed north of $2M this year to thousands of clients and despite business impact due to a second round of COVID-related lockdowns have doubled our monthly disbursements in the past 6 months and are projected to more than double again by the end of the year.
